Sticker version of the Stained-Glass painting Em painted on her front door

I came across Em Powell through social media. I was drawn in by the videos of her paining a mural in her front entry, including a multi-part series as she made a beautiful stained-glass style mural on the front door.

She has so much talent, and one of the things I really appreciate is that she shows you the process of making her paintings–including when things feel off and she changes them. Seeing the process and the thinking, as well as seeing in real time the difference the changes makes is fascinating to me.

Em also shares her struggles with chronic illness. As a spoonie myself, I appreciate the visibility she gives to the struggles having an invisible illness creates. For me, her vulnerability, sharing, and advocacy, add a layer of authenticity as well.

She has a monthly print club called the Moss & Moon club. Each month, she paints a new print, based on the full moon that month, and mails it out to subscribers. For months with 2 full moons, you get both for the same price–currently $7 per month for US subscribers.

In addition to her print club, she has what she calls her Evergreen Collection, which is art that’s available all the time. I ordered a few items from that collection, including a print, bookmark, and sticker.

Her art feels light and whimsical. I feel joy just looking at it. Although most of what I have includes dragon themes, she has done lots of other creatures, including foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits, cows, mice, dogs, stags, and mermaids. Many include beautiful natures scenes. When reviewing the available prints on her website, she includes descriptions and explanations.

She makes all of her prints in-house, even the large ones. (Seeing her videos where she acquired and learned to use her giant printers were great fun!) To me, that means when I support her small business, it really does support her and her family. The content she shares on social media that shows her making the art and share about her life are the icing on the cake. In this age of AI, I love seeing the human creation of art and love supporting it, as well.
